Description: Climate change represents one of the major challenges of contemporary society, resulting in both tangible and symbolic impacts. In the Brazilian semi-arid region, reduced rainfall and water scarcity lead to losses and damages, including cultural heritage, such as the disappearance of ancestral farming practices, artistic traditions, and harvest-related expressions. The loss of cultural heritage results in damage to community memory, territorial defense, and historical preservation, weakening community values and social cohesion. Drought affects food and water security, threatens traditional knowledge passed down orally from generation to generation, including stories, songs, healing practices, and other elements that are integral to cultural identity. From a socioeconomic perspective, the impact on family income exacerbates poverty, social vulnerability, and violence, particularly in regions already afflicted by social inequalities. This project aims to collect and analyze the impacts of these losses and damages within this context, as well as to identify solutions and possible pathways for building a more just, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable society. The information generated will contribute to the formulation of public policies for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity and to initiatives focusing on climate justice and human rights, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The research aimed to discuss the relationship between culture and development in the municipality of Pintadas, located in a region that, in the social imagination, has often been associated with poverty and backwardness. Pintadas subverts the hegemonic discourse and presents itself as a possible place by articulating a set of civil society experiences from the perspective of sustainable development and in light of living with the semi-arid region. Therefore, the investigation analyzes the contributions and impacts of cultural projects led by the Rheluz Performing Arts Company and their effects at the local and regional levels.

The research analyzes the meanings of "Living with the Semi-Arid Region" and the extent to wich its discourses and pratices contribute to the re-signification of this territorial space. "Living with the Semi-Arid Region" is understood as a new paradigm for thinking, understanding, and acting upon the Sertão, which for a long time was seen as synonymous with inertia and backwardness. One of the objectives of this work is to investigate how this model generates new discourses about this territory, the characteristics of these narratives, and their influence of identity dimensions and the reconfiguration of the popular imagination about it.
