Description: This research aims to assess how climate-induced loss and damage directly affect the quality of life in vulnerable communities, focusing on shelter, health, food security, education, and skills development. The research will take place in the Nioro du Sahel region in Mali, a semi-arid area significantly impacted by climate change, including severe droughts, desertification, and erratic rainfall patterns. These environmental stressors have led to widespread loss of crops, displacement, and food insecurity, with lasting effects on the local population’s health, livelihoods, and access to education. The project will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with community members and local authorities alongside quantitative data collection to measure the tangible impacts of loss and damage. By engaging local stakeholders, the study will explore adaptation strategies employed by these communities and identify gaps where support is most needed. The research will contribute to the global dialogue on Loss and Damage by providing region-specific data that can inform future policies and interventions. It also aligns with the broader goal of building resilience in climate-vulnerable regions by offering evidence-based recommendations to improve livelihoods, enhance local adaptive capacity, and ensure access to essential services such as education and healthcare.
