Overview

Nelson Chege is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a strong background in policy development, climate justice, and sustainable development. He has contributed to migration policy development for IGAD and the Migration Youth & Children Platform (MYCP), providing technical and legal support at the UNFCCC for the RINGO constituency. As a 2024 Mentor at the UN-SDSN Local Pathways Fellowship, Nelson has guided emerging leaders in sustainable urban development. He is skilled in research methodology, data validation, and evidence-based policy formulation, with a focus on engaging frontline communities in climate resilience strategies through storytelling and inclusive frameworks.

Partnered with Rotary’s Rivers to the Sea Initiative (R2S) to design and develop a River and Ecological Observational Monitoring Program and ensure legal and regulatory compliance before implementation. Negotiated strategic partnerships with national and local governments to implement The Action Within a Resilient Environment (AWARE) education program in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in Sub Saharan Africa and beyond.

Researched on, drafted and developed the IGAD Policy Framework on Refugee Protection (2023) for the 7 IGAD states as part of the contracted legal team. Offered legal expertise and guidance throughout the project, with a focus on anticipatory action and climate-forced migration.
