Overview

I am a young a young lawyer from Uganda with passion for climate change, biodiversity and natural resource management law. My professional Journey started from my first Job at Advocates for Natural Resources and Development a non profit NGO in Uganda where I served as the project officer of a project in the Karamoja sub region where we impacted on the communities surrounding mining hotspots in the area between 2020-2022. Currently I am the Board Director and founder of a small non profit organisation named Terra Legal research center which focusses on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Nature conservation.

This was a Masters course in law focusing on international environmental law and the transboundary aspects of environmental law. It had components of research, litigation, advocacy and international treaty negotiations in the areas of climate change, biodiversity, hazardous waste, water resources management, public participation etc. It involved lectures on the theoretical and practical aspects of environmental law and policy. It was then finalised by each student writing a Thesis on one of the topics.

• Managing an EU funded project named “Empowering civil society and communities to demand for good governance in natural resource management in Uganda”. • Carrying out research and editing publications on environmental matters such as climate change, biodiversity and natural resource management. • Holding sensitization outreaches, seminars and workshops on environmental matters such as climate change resilience, biodiversity, natural resource management. • Providing legal advice through providing legal opinions, case notes, articles etc on environmental law cases. • Operating social media handles for ANARDE. • Collecting data on human rights violations around the extractive industry in karamoja. • Collecting legal complaints from community. • Applying for Donations and coordinating with Donors.

This project was implemented by Avocats San Frontiers and Advocates for Natural Resources and Development between 2020 - 2022 in the Karamoja and Bunyoro sub regions of Uganda. It focused on analysing the impacts of Extractives industry on the human rights of the surrounding communities, It employed the community based human rights methodology, Identifying community volunteers who were equipped with gadgets to monitor and report human rights violations through the kobocollect application. The data was then accessed by the legal officer analysed and a report generated. The different human rights issues reported were also followed up during and post the project period.
